Using lawn feed is an excellent way to ensure we get that lush green lawn that we all want. It’s a goal that can otherwise be hard to achieve in the British climate! Nice alternative if evergreen isn’t available: Westland Aftercut 500sqm All in One Lawn Feed Weed Moss Killer If you’ve got a large area of grass to cover, it can wind up being pretty expensive to buy several bags of lawn feed. Fortunately, products like the GREENFORCE 4-in-1 Lawn Feed, Weed, Moss Killer offer great value for money, with one 15 kg bag providing enough to cover an area of up to 750 m² (that’s 3 tennis courts!).

Prior to any lawn weed and feed, or any fertiliser of any kind you need to put in the ground work. Cut the lawn first so you can expose the moss. Any lawn mower will do but you want a clean cut. I achieve this with a cordless lawn mower. My personal preference has always been the Makita cordless mower and it’s one of my best bits of kit in the shed. Grass collection is important, you want to be as clean and clear as possible to get the best results. Each part of the puzzle put together will give you the best shot at a perfect lawn. Read the method below. This tells you which products to use (it states the active ingredients, such as fluroxypyr), and how many applications will be needed to control the weedsAfter use immediately wash out equipment with water and detergent to remove all traces of weedkiller, fill with clean water and leave overnight. Spray or drain out again before storing or using another product. Keep children and pets away from treated area until spray has dried. Aside from the information found under Description of first aid measures (above)and Indication of immediate medical attention and special treatment needed (below),no additional symptoms and effects are anticipated. Whether you're struggling to control moss, weeds or both, there's a lawn treatment that can help, but they don't all do an excellent job. Some will work wonders for your grass (but not make a dent in the weeds and moss), while others do a better job at controlling weeds.

The NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) ratio is 6-9-6, and the high phosphorus content is what helps this product better promote the health of germinating seeds compared to other lawn feeds. Nitrogen is responsible for leaf growth, and potassium encourages plants to grow and function correctly. If you have a large garden the 20kg bag is a great buy and on par with EverGreen 400sqm Complete 4-in-1 Lawn Care for value. I still prefer the Evergreen though.

This fast-acting product consists of a combination of nutrients and slow-release fertilisers: the nutrients get to work specifically on lawn health, helping it become greener and healthier, whilst the fertiliser continues to feed the lawn for up to eight weeks. Certain versatile lawn feeds can be used for different functions depending on when they’re applied: for example, when applied between September and November the Miracle-Gro EverGreen Premium Plus Lawn Food restores the lawn after the harsh summer and prepares it for the stresses of winter. Similarly, applying it in March helps negate the damaging effects of a cold winter. One of the most important things to consider is the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) in the lawn feed. The best lawn feed will have a NPK ratio that suits your garden’s needs – nitrogen encourages leafy growth, phosphorus helps establish roots and potassium helps with overall grass health. This granular product needed to be applied every six to eight weeks but was easy to do so evenly by hand. The granules were a little irregular in shape and size, but they didn’t break up or become dusty. The product improved turf quality and colour significantly, keeping the lawn healthy and looking good.

The general rule of thumb is to restrict a dog’s access to your lawn following weed and feed treatment for 48 hours. To be on the safer side, you can opt to wait 72 hours. Therefore, you may wish to consider what is more of a priority for your lawn. If you’re looking for it to be vibrant and weed-free for the summer, applying a combination of lawn feed and weed killer in preparation will work wonders. NOTE: While “weed and feed” refer to lawn products containing herbicides (weed killers, the “weed” part of the name) and fertilizers (the “feed” part), often weed and feed products may also be referred to as containingpesticidesand fertilizer, which is confusing for beginners. “Pesticide” is a broader term than “herbicide.”The term pesticide refers to a product that is used to kill pests. While “pests” may evoke images of insects or rodents, weeds are also considered pests. Herbicides are pesticides that are specifically designed to kill plant pests. Is Weed & Feed Safe For Dogs? In terms of actual timing, you want to complete the cut and clear process a few days, maybe four, before you want to spread the lawn weed and feed. The best month to take this on is April or May. My pro tip is to half feed the lawn twice rather than go all in the first time.High Quality Lawn Lawn UK is known for top quality premium lawn seed. These finest quality grass seed mixtures are designed to look perfect but still be versatile. For example, premium shade, which is a fine quality lawn mixture also grows well in the shade. If you want the very best lawn seed mixture then choose premium green from Lawn UK.’ Lawn grass can suffer substantially during the winter months, so it’s worth employing the advice of the well-known saying – the best form of defence is a good offense.
