Irwin offers the Gorgonites, peaceful creatures whose mission is to gather information about Earth, prompting children to learn with them, whereas Larry presents the Commando Elite, a special task force of action figures. Despite Irwin's objections, Mars chooses the ugly-looking Gorgonites as the Commando Elite's enemies and imposes a three-month deadline, which Irwin protests as 'impossible' due to the rigorous testing and design period required. Goggles Do Nothing: The Commando Elite wear Liefeldian amounts of pouches, holsters and straps. Link Static even has a huge pair of welder's goggles, for even less apparent reason than usual. Stan Winston in The Winston Effect: The Art & History of Stan Winston Studio by Jody Duncan, as quoted in "SMALL SOLDIERS BEHIND-THE-SCENES - CREATING THE ULTIMATE TOYS AT STAN WINSTON STUDIO", Stan Winston School of Character Art, December 26, 2013.

Tornado Move: Insaniac rapidly spins in a Taz-esque style, which turns lethal when he uses his Epic Flail. Chip Hazard may be programmed to destroy the Gorgonites, but he was given an honorable and loyal personality as a heroic soldier. The trouble comes when his programming allows for no mercy to the Gorgonites or their allies. For the film's effects shots, Dante stated that the original idea was to use mostly puppetry, using puppets provided by Stan Winston. However, Dante said that while shooting, it was "simpler and cheaper" to use computer-generated imagery (CGI) after the scenes had been shot, so the film is "one-third puppetry and the rest CGI." [4] Dante believes that the studio had hopes that Small Soldiers would be the start of a film series. [5] Release [ edit ] Box office [ edit ] They had been designed to be a heroic fighting force against the Gorgonites who were created as their enemies and the villains. Their credo was "There will be no mercy!" However, their programming as well as the enhancement from the X-1000 munitions micro-processing chip turned them into unstable ruthless killing machines.

After the battle, Gil Mars has an idea to repurpose the Commando Elite for the military to send them to fight South American rebels instead of selling them to kids. Designated Hero: In-Universe, the Commandos. They're supposed to be bold hero figures fighting the monstrous Gorgonites but they are ruthless. The Singularity: The Commando Elite learn how to reverse-engineer their chips and create an army of Franken-Barbies.In the morning, as the authorities clean up, Mars arrives by helicopter, paying off Joe and both families for the damage, and instructs Larry and Irwin to repurpose the Commando Elite for military use. Alan and Christy start a relationship, and he discovers the Gorgonites survived the EMP underneath the Fimples' satellite dish. Alan brings the Gorgonites to Yosemite, sharing a goodbye before sending them off in his father's toy boat to find their home. One or maybe even some books shows Archer similar to the prop in the film but one noticeable difference is the colors are lighter and his cross bow is different instead of the fully sliver and having a cow skull on the front this one was smaller and was more mechanical it's unclear if this was a early crossbow sculpt or a small replacement as it's unknown as of this moment Two major villains, Butch Meathook and Link Static, were never released in real life except in the Burger King tie-in line. Flag Drop: Chip Hazzard stroll in front of an American flag... or rather, a jigsaw puzzle of one, since the Commando Elite are all in a toy store at this point. The speech he gives is composed entirely of quotes from famous patriotic speeches. Police Are Useless: Taken to ridiculous extremes. Not only do they dismiss Christy's statements about the Commando Elites when she calls 911 and consider it a nuisance call, but when she tries to make them come by admitting she made a nuisance call (a rather serious crime in itself), they simply hang up.

Gone Horribly Right: Putting AI into toys, programming them as soldiers and giving them a specific enemy? They become more dangerous than full sized human soldiers. It's worth noting that numerous times Larry and Irwin both admit that there's nothing wrong with the intelligence chips. Major Chip Hazard, a military action figure, along with the other Commando Elite, were designed by Larry Benson, but were created by Global Tech Industries. Each one of the Commandos were given a microchip known as the X-1000 and were programmed to kill Gorgonites. However, the X-1000 was designed to learn and adapt to the programming. So Hazard and the other Commandos became more and more like "real" soldiers, determined to kill the Gorgonites and anyone who was allied with them (whom they would call "Gorgonite allies"). The sword that comes with the toys of Archer were based off of the prop of the sword for the rod puppet but in the film it is shown to be in it's sheath before going missing. Alan decides to climb up to the pylon and install a metal wrench between the transformers, while Alan's father defeats more Commandos and Christy, Irwin and Larry head for the Fimple's house to activate the circuit.

The next morning, Gil Mars arrives to bribe all witnesses to the crisis into silence. Larry is fearful to lose his job, but Mars proposes that they increase the price of the Commando Elite and sell them to the military of a South American nation. Alan and Christy kiss passionately. At the end of the film, the Gorgonites set out in search for their home, Gorgon, on Stuart's model ship in a river in Yosemite National Park.
