As for Taiga, I see him as a character who fulfills a function, and nothing more. Taiga has a duty to bring up all the discussions in this manga, because he declares himself lovingly to Arima, and even though he knows he is a man, this doesn't change how he feels about Arima, and that fact I see as a problem.

Arima, also known as Maria is a genderqueer character who’s gay, and uses he/him pronouns. I thought this as such an important piece of representation with how people under the non-binary umbrella aren’t obligated to be androgynous and use they/them pronouns and whatnot. Not only that, I love to see trans people, especially non-binary people receiving the love they feel they didn’t deserve but definitely needed, especially considering past trauma and past experiences. As sad as this manga was, I felt such a deep connection to the story and how trans people are portrayed. However, Taiga is drawn to Arima's volatile personality, belying a past that haunts them to this very day. Regardless of gender, Taiga nevertheless wants to learn who the true "Arima" is. TLDR: A drama story that's too convenient, not that it is necessarily a problem, but it was to a point where I couldn't really take everything seriously. Otherwise great art, and even if I wasn't the biggest fan, the point came across, and that was enough for me to enjoy it (and should be for literally anyone who isn't cynical). Taiga’s always worshiped the heroes he’s seen on TV. And now that he’s started high school, his fateful encounter with a certain girl compels him to make her his heroine. And she was known as the Madonna of the drama club, Maria. After seeing her perform on stage, Taiga falls ...... MORE Taiga’s always worshiped the heroes he’s seen on TV. And to his surprise, the beautiful lady is actually a beautiful boy… HIDE

It feels like there's a kernel of heartfelt meaningfulness and sweetness underneath the heavyhanded storytelling, but I'm not sure if this story captures it as well as it could have. And this might be a controversial opinion, but I think this story would've been best served if it wasn't a romance. First of all, the pushy way that Taiga keeps confessing over and over again is problematic. And byhaving this pushiness rewarded with a romantic ending, it almost encourages not giving up on your feelings even if the other party isn't interested (and therein lies the path of entitlement, disrespect, and even abuse or stalking on the extreme end of things). Knowing this and enjoying seeing what he did is knowing that there will be no more works like this. A 10/10. One day, I hope that everyone can love who they love, be who they want to be, and live happily without the fear of being judged by society. Kosei Eguchi was born on July 29, 1997. In his childhood, he often played alone, making stories with finger puppets. [1] He liked to draw and during his time in elementary school he drew comic strips. Although he had a good level as a draftsman, he was reluctant to think about it, so he communicated with others through painting. [1] his family did not agree with him becoming a mangaka, as not all of them could be successful. However, an editor at Printemps Publishing had taken an interest in Eguchi when he was studying oil painting with a view to entering the Tokyo University of the Arts. He began his professional career in 2017 with the publication of the BL manga, Boy meets Maria, under the pseudonym Peyo. [1] [2]

I want to touch upon are the themes of this manga and how they didn't really invoke anything out of me as I thought it may have. I apoligize if my grammar is bad, english is not my first language) This is the manga that while reading ive cried the most, it is truly amazing how this manga blossoms into something so out of control to a calm and deserved ending. The way that I began reading this knowing nothing and just laughing of the embarrassment I would get from taiga's interactions to sobbing at them just some few chapters later is what really made this book not just a story line but an expierence. Would reccomend if you want to cry a lot because of how beautifully tragic this story Usually, when we analyze a comic, we have the bad habit of separating what is text from what is art (I do it myself sometimes), and this is not always the best way to analyze a manga, because usually, one thing is connected to another. In comics, a scene only has impact if it has a good plot behind it, just like a good story, at least in comics, will depend on the art talking to the reader, and when this happens, we have this wonderful mix, where you can't think of manga as separate art and text, because everything is one thing. The author has built his manga to be one thing, you know? Again, it's hard to explain my feelings about the art in this manga, but it manages to be unique, even though it's "generic," and that's great. nowadays not only is a good means of entertainment that is good for your mental health but also save Leer este primer y único tomo fue una experiencia muy linda, tanto la evolución de los protagonistas, los temas que tratan que para mucha gente llega a ser tabú (sobretodo en Japón) y lo trata de forma delicada pero directa. Overall, Boy Meets Maria is entirely ungraceful in its dealings with sexual assault and queer themes. It feels like a story made for the enjoyment of a heterosexual audience; I don’t understand how a queer person could see themselves in characters so devoid of authenticity.
