Description

She’s playing at the school fete with your children. You pull out your phone, scroll through Facebook, and look up again. I am not a book snob. I like a fast-paced, plot-driven suspense thriller as much as the next girl. Now You See Her, on the surface at least, seems like a book that would be right down my dark alley. Marcy Taggert is on holiday in Ireland. It was supposed to be a second honeymoon, but her husband, Peter, has run off with the golf pro from his country club and so Marcy has gone solo. While enjoying a cup of tea with a man she’s met on her day-trip to Cork, Marcy sees her daughter, Devon. Which isn’t possible because Devon is dead. (cue music) Secrets can ruin everything. The problem was that Jeanine's secrets were not the only ones that would affect what was happening. As Jeanine learns more about her husband's past, she realizes that she needs to get away and the Jump Killer could be the perfect way of getting away, if only she could duplicate the pattern. Nathaniel and Freya had amazing chemistry. I felt bad for poor Harun. He seemed like a third wheel, chaperoning two kids, at some places.

The writing is clun-ky. Sometimes, apropos of nothing, we get a little history lesson. No one sounds Irish. The transitions are often confusing. As if Amelia doesn't have enough problems, the more time passes, more of her memories are lost as she starts remembering, and this added to the anxiousness. It was really a gripping story, as you can see. Something strange has happened to high school senior Amelia Fischer. After finding out that her mom is uprooting them for the upteenth time and losing a vital tennis match to all-star rival Sophie Graham, Amelia feels a mixture of anger and disappointment. When she finds herself stranded in the middle of a severe lightning storm and on the verge of being kidnapped by an unknown assailant, she panics and blindly runs out onto the flooded street and WHAM!, directly into the path of oncoming traffic. As fate would have it, she gets hit by none other than Sophie Graham. The novel opens with an introduction to 50 year old Marcy who is on a tour bus in Ireland. Actually, she is on a 25th wedding anniversary trip without her husband. He left her after their daughter died in a boating accident because he couldn't deal with all their emotions. (Wimp, in my opinion!) The authorities are sure that Devon, their daughter committed suicide but Marcy can't accept that answer because she thinks she sees Devon in crowds everywhere. While in Ireland, she is positive she sees Devon walking down the street and she takes off leaving the tour behind her. Marcy thinks, somehow, Devon has faked her own death and has hidden out in Ireland. Devon gets away from her and Marcy sets out, determined to find her. Another passenger and a very friendly Irish bartender are very eager to help her in her search. Hmmm, something "fishy" about these two. In “Now you see her,” James Patterson tells the story of a mysterious woman named Nina, who’s running away from her old life and secrets which can ruin her life in the present. The story starts off when Nina, a single mom, shows a video recording to her sixteen-year-old daughter of her father wishing her a happy birthday. Only it’s not her father, but an actor hired by Nina. For whatever reason, Nina does not want her daughter to know the truth. Overall: An excellent read that had me totally entertained and engrossed from start to finish! Would highly recommend! This was a very entertaining book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good psychological mystery. We then follow Nina's life and how everything got her to where she is today. Nina's husband Peter is a truly despicable character who I loathed from the moment I read about him, but for all the loathing it made for a special read due to the intense feelings I had to the characters in the book. In the 1990s, the top level of women's football was still some way off the standard of today. But women had to fight extraordinary prejudice just for the right to play.

‎Now You See Her on Apple Books

Charlotte is looking after her best friend’s daughter the day she disappears. She thought the little girl was playing with her own children. She swears she only took her eyes off them for a second. Almost half a century on, 19-year-old Patricia Gregory was with her dad at Tottenham Town Hall to watch Spurs bring home the FA Cup after beating Chelsea in the 1967 final. She realised she had never seen women play, so she wrote to a newspaper to ask why. Several girls responded, eager to join her club. Marcy je polna obžalovanj in samoobtoževanja.

Advance Praise

I admire her for taking risks with this novel. It isn't easy to write a story with a completely unreliable and (I would argue) unlikable narrator. However, to make this story work, it is essential that we see the world through Hope Shay's eyes. Sometimes it's difficult for people to believe that the girl who has everything would have doubts, insecurities, and would have such a hard time dealing with reality that she would create her own little world to live in. But as Hope's world begins to unravel, she takes us on a heartbreakingly honest journey that ends with the realization that all the praise and critical acclaim in the world doesn't matter if you can hear that "applause" yourself. If you're in someone else's body you will not be facing any repercussions for any of the actions you do--> Those actions might have consequences [for that person anyways] There are quite a few twists and I was surprised by some. There’s a confrontation of sorts ‘after’ the climax and I kept thinking another twist could be forthcoming but it wasn’t (well, for we readers anyway.) I wasn’t sure about the scene itself (ie. whether it was necessary) but guess it offers some closure for one of the characters and gives us a sense of things being resolved… and reflecting the uncertainty of life. But then one night changes everything. When Amelia’s car breaks down on the side of the road in a rainstorm, a man she thinks is a Good Samaritan pulls over to help her. When he tries to abduct her instead, she escapes into oncoming traffic. About to move away again Amelia has always envied the life perfect Sophie led. When her car is down in the middle of a storm and a stranger doesn't seem to come with the best intentions, she runs only to be hit by no one other than Sophie herself. When Amelia wakes up, she is inside Sophie, her own body is in a dangerous coma, and the stranger is still out there without anyone to believe he even existed.
