The characters were great in their own ways, the children were adorable and made me want to reach in and hug them. Especially when you think about the fact that these characters have known each other and worked together for a while, a lot of the development that happened in this story just seemed like a very quick change of heart. It actually lulled me into a false sense of security because suddenly I was suspended in mid-air before being hurtled down the track.I still haven't watched Empire Records (yes, embarrassing, I know) so I can't talk about similarities and such.

I appreciated the journey these three young women took over the course of the story and was happy to see a friendship form between them. It just rubbed me the wrong way, as that was really the only depression representation we got with Imogen. However, it turns out not to be the dream job she expected as she is asked to do strange and pointless tasks.The plot is a tad unbelievable at times and the logistics don't always work, but the characters are lovable enough that you will forget how ridiculous the whole thing is after reading a few chapters. I think the author managed to make these characters alive for the most part, and that feels like a great accomplishment. I will note that I’ve seen this book being billed as lgbtq+ but the lesbian rep pretty much only included a scene where a girl breaks up with her girlfriend, and another scene that hints at flirting. I don’t want to give away too much as I feel it will take away a lot of enjoyment from the story so apologies that this is very vague.
